The quality of your life cannot exceed the quality of your MIND. It is the reason we are told to guard our hearts with all diligence. We are living in a world where it can only take deliberate and responsive effort to get rid of these negative thoughts. According to one expert, 80% of our thoughts have some negative content. In spite of these, it is destructive to allow your mind to dwell on negative thoughts. When we allow negative thoughts to stay or persist longer than necessary, our minds accept them as our realities and our lives invariably begin to move in the direction of such thoughts.
As someone rightly pointed out, “negative thinking stops people from seeing the positive when it does happen. It’s as if there’s a screen filtering out positives and just letting in stuff that confirms the the negative mindset. Magnifying your setbacks and minimizing successes lead to de-motivation and misery”. This could be destructive.

If you don’t delete negative thoughts from your mind soon enough, it may hinder or hamper any meaningful progress in your life. It is our responsibility to ensure that only thoughts that serve our lives positively and keep us productive are allowed in to our minds. Often the outcomes of negative thoughts are depression, anger, fear, stress, lust etc. This could even lead to health challenges. That’s why it’s so important to learn how to deal with them.

STEP 1Substitute the Negative Thought: This does not mean you should substitute a negative thought with just any other thought, but with a positive one that is stronger in passion and appeal and consistent with your goal, vision and purpose. This is why you need to discover your purpose, have a vision and set goals that motivate you. There is nothing in life that should drive you more than your purpose. If you’re not clear about where you’re going in life, any thought will take you there.

STEP 2Cut off the supply of the Negative Thought: Every thought has its NATIVITY – every thought is born somewhere. Discover the source of your negative thoughts and cut it off. Whatever the sources of the negative thoughts are: the kind of movies and programs you watch, the books or magazines you feed your mind on, the places you go to, some ugly experiences in your past, or the people you associate with, do all you can to cut off the supply of these negative thoughts.

STEP 3Be persistent and patient: The training of your mind to easily repel negative thoughts and admit only positive ones is not going to happen suddenly. It might take a while. How long it will take to get rid of a negative thought will depend on what level of damage it has done to your mind already and the kind of emotion it creates. However, you need to remain consistent in the battle of winning your mind back from negative thoughts. I bet you the effort is worth it. Some thoughts can be eliminated instantly some will take some time. The truth however is, as far as we are on this side of life the battle of securing our minds from negative thoughts is one that has no end.
